The Dilemma of Custom Orders

Oh Customs why do you haunt us all!!!

Custom orders are a double edged sword, although they are a privilage to make and we do so appreciate the fact that you lovely people love our Creations so much, they are a lot of pressure.

I see a few comments around on FB pages of late criticising pages for not doing customs or only releasing a few items and it saddens me that the writers of the comments really have no idea!!!


In the beginning I took on customs regularly, and enjoyed them. But as Tilly Lane grew and the demand for customs grew, so did the pressure. Like most of the other handmade businesses, this is a part time venture. I have 3 young children and a husband to look after, nurture and enjoy. However, I found that a list of 50+ custom orders was taking "Top Priority" and although all my customers were awesome and didn't mind waiting, it was still always there at the back of the mind. As well as the fact that I didn't want to keep people waiting. It also started to extinguish the creative factor, as in I wasn't making new things.

As most of you know, Tilly Lane tends to be an OOAK Business, this has nothing to do with us wanting to be pretentious, it is purely because we have fabric ADHD and get bored working with the same fabric and pattern :) So now we have taken a new approach to custom orders.

We release a limited amount of custom orders each market night. This allows us time to create new things for the next market, spend time with our family, and maybe just maybe, catch up with the ever demanding domestic duties that are non stop!!!

We are sure you all understand our custom order policy. And keep in mind that other pages that no longer do them, have chosen that option purely because they are also time poor and have beautiful families to take care of as well.
