Long Time no Blog

Well its been a while since we blogged ...what with so much on and life in general.
We are now coming up to our 6 month Anniversary since we began 76 Tilly Lane on Facebook and we have been overwhelmed with the response and support of so many lovely people out there.
We have also made lots of new friends online both customers and fellow creators.

So what have I learnt on our whirlwind journey so far!!!

1. Copyright is always a big issue in this cat scratch cat world of Handmade.
But what is a copy and what is inspired..that is the question!!!

2. Likers don't equal Sales and yet it seems a competition to have the most likers.
I think its much better to have 100 likers who are genuine than 10,000 who are just trying to promote themselves!!!

3. Shout Outs are a double edged sword!!
Tilly Lane does shout outs for actual things...we don't do it to promote our own page..we don't do it to promote our "friends"pages...we do it so our likers can also share in the love of finding fabulous things!!!

4. Self Promotion is rife!!!
As much as we love it when we see our name on other pages and get shout outs we are not big on self promotion....call us business blockheads if you want but that's just not us...We are in this game for the love of creating things....We also love our fabulous customers for also loving our creations xx

and finally

Be a nice person and nice things happen

Much Loves
Lane xxxxx

  1. I love what you have just written as it mirrors about 100% of how I feel. Its about doing things for the love of it because it translates into other people loving your work too. (Jazz)

  2. Nice blog!

    The copyright thing is tough.

Sometimes I feel like I need to put all my ideas from my ideas book out there at once in case someone else does something similar and then thinks that I am copying them when I eventually get to implementing!

Owls, russian dolls, japanese dolls, birds, etc. are all so popular at the moment and everyone is doing them, so if you also do one of them, is there a risk of being called a copycat!

MM fabric is being used by everyone and they actually tell you what goes with what, so then there is a risk that you are copying someone by putting matching fabrics together into a piece!

Also there are not that many 'funky' kids patterns out there and if you are working from patterns, it is crazy to think that you might get abused because you purchased and are using the same pattern as someone else!

  3. I hear ya on the copyright bit.....but you know what...don't worry about it...If there is a pattern or template out there or an image that inspires yo do recreate it in your own way then go for it...its the small minded people who will jump up and down....most of the people with any smickle of common sense knows that this is just how it works....who knows how many pages are out there you havn't seen doing something similar....and those artists that I have respect for that make great creations..I just buy from them and send people their way....I just feel sorry for those people who spend their time being bitter and twisted and abusing others...their lives must suck....So glad other people feel the same way...sometimes you feel a bit alone in it all...and don't know who is a friend or foe...luckily I have a partner in crime who is a good bouncing board and we support each other....Jazz and Boo your creations are awesome don't let anyone tell you differently xxxx
